Wacky win keeps Hot Shots out of the basement
The Sugar Creek Hot Shots played the last match of the season on Tues., Sept 11. Not only was a hurricane brewing off the coast, threatening rain, but the GCC Penn Pals forfeited line 3 at the 11th hour. Add to that, Hoi thought the match start time was 7pm, so was a no-show. Mara, however, upset about not being able to play was at GCC to watch the match. Dotty was filling for Catherine as captain, and made a quick decision to put Mara in at line 2, and give Hoi and Lesa the forfeit. In spite of all the drama and wackiness, the Hot Shots were able to prevail for the team's only win of the season.
On line 1, Sharon and Andi took a strong win against their opponents Lynn and Susan. Their straight two-set scores were 6-2, 6-1.
On line 2, Dotty and Mara lost to Betsy and Amy, with scores of 3-6, 4-6
Hoi and Lesa won the Golden Bagel because of the forfeit, taking their 6-0, 6-0 win for the set and the match.
The one win of the season takes the Hot Shots out of a tie with GCC Pen Pals for the bottom position in the league for a 1-5 record.
Hot Shots drop close match to Brookstone
It was another hot and muggy Tuesday night at Sugar Creek as the Hot Shots faced off against the vulnerable Brookstone Double the Fun.
On line 1, Lonna and Hoi had a close battle against Lee Ann and Aimee. Brookstone took the first set 7-5 and Sugar Creek took the second set 7-5. In the 10-point tie-breaker, it was back and forth until 7-7, when Brookstone made a move, coming into the net to put the balls away. The Hot Shots lost 0-1, (7-10).
On line 2, Meredith and Tammy won a solid match against Candy and Julie. They played on court 2, where the lights are awful and the lobs were high. Fortunately, it was a nice straight set win, 6-4, 6-2.
On line 3, Mara and Lesa were in the match against their opponents Keri and Cara. There were lots of back and forth points, but the Hot Shots just couldn't grab the win on the points that mattered the most. Brookstone took the line in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.
The loss puts the team at 0-5 for the season, tied with next week's opponents at GCC.
Kroc make-up match completed
Another rain out for the Hot Shots on Aug. 21 ruined a fantastic line up for the Hot Shots. The team was able to compete together on Aug. 30 at the Kroc.
On line 1, Dotty and Andi jumped out to a 4-0 lead against Jennifer and Angela. They weren't able to stop the Kroc from getting their bearings. The Hot Shots lost the first set 5-7, and the second 0-6.
On line 2, Catherine and Tammy played Tammie and Margo in the longest match of the night. The set went back and forth until Tammy's lobbing and Catherine's net play led to a 6-3 victory in the first set. In the second, the Hot Shots were down 2-5, and somehow managed to squeeze a 7-5 win to take the line.
On line 3, Hoi and Lisa were outplayed by Teresa and Rhonda. They lost 6-2, 6-1.
The loss puts the team at 0-4 for the season, with the next match scheduled for Sept 4 at home against Brookstone.

The Sugar Creek Hot Shots had to make up the first team match line-by-line against the GCC Cute Skirts. There was quite a bit of gamesmanship on our opponents' part as they tried to dictate the rules of the make up, and what days they could play. The matches were spread out over the two-week time frame.
On line 1, Lisa and Andi had a close first set against Kristin and Amanda. It was a blistering hot Sunday afternoon, with temps reaching the high 90s. The Cute Skirts were just too strong, taking it in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2.
On line 2, GCC came out strong, taking the first set 6-2. Sharon and Tammy battled back against Amanda and Elizabeth, taking the lead for a short time before heading to the 7-point set tie-breaker. Unfortunately for the Hot Shots, GCC took the set 7-6.
On line 3, the Hot Shots dynamic lefty duo of Mara and Lesa were the last line to play. They lost a close set against Katherine and Betsy at 5-7, regrouped and took the second set 7-5. The Hot Shots took the momentum and held strong for the 10-point tie breaker and winning the line.
The match loss puts the team at a 0-2 for the season.
Rain cancels first match
The 2018 season for the Sugar Creek Hot Shots has been dismal so far. The first match scheduled for July 31 at home against the GCC Cute Skirts was rained out. The make up matches are underway, so check back soon for the entire match summary.
The Sugar Creek Hot Shots struggled against the Ashton Hall of Framers on sweltering, humid night. The two teams faced of Tuesday, Aug. 7.
On line 1, Hoi and Catherine couldn't get anything going against Celeste and Karen. The Hot Shots were able to get into many of the games, but were unable to convert the deuce games into wins. They lost the first set 0-6. In the second, after changing sides, the Hot Shots finally got on the board at 3-1. They broke serve, and held again to bring the score to 5-3, but were unable to hold off Karen in the final set.
On line 2, Dotty and Darina started off by breaking their opponents Rachael and Debbie. However, it was downhill from there. The points were long, but the Framers were too good at the net, poaching and putting the ball just out of reach. Lots of deuce games didn't help the Hot Shots, and they lost 6-1, 6-0.
On line 3, Fran and Meredith were the sole winners, beating Angie and April in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.
Thanks to all the ladies that played tonight. And, prayers to Fran who played with an abscessed tooth.
The team is 0-1 for the season, and plays next at home against the Sportsclub on Aug. 14.
