2017 season

Hot Shots win last match at Sportsclub
The Sugar Creek Hot Shots played against the Sportsclub Shot Girls on Tues., Aug. 29 and came home with a victory. The match is the last of the 6.5 combo season.

On line 1, Lisa and Laura faced tough opponents in Hattie and Fran. In the first set, the Sportsclub established an early lead with hard hitting and excellent net coverage. They took that set 6-2. In the second, Lisa and Laura buckled down and started moving the Shot Girls around the court with high lobs and down the line shots to keep them out of position. The Hot Shots took that line 6-4. In the 10-point tie-break, the Hot Shots established a 7-4 lead, but the Sports Girls battled back with intensified net coverage. The Hot Shots came back with some excellent shots to defeat their opponents for a 1-0 win in the third (11-9).

On line 2, Judy and Mara jumped out to a quick 2-1 lead over Julie and Bess in the first set. The Shot Girls were able to battle back and take the first set 6-2. In the second, it was neck and neck as the Hot Shots were able to step up their game. Mara had some excellent drop volleys and net slams that stunned the Shot Girls, while Judy expertly lobbed in the back court before hustling up to the net to finish the point. Unfortunately, at 5-4 (in favor of the Shot Girls), Judy's knee buckled and she went down, forcing line 2 to retire. Judy was able to hobble off the court with some assistance, and hopefully, she will back soon.

On line 3, Lesa and Leigh were in fine form against Maggie and Estela. In the first set, they dominated with Lesa's back court hustling and Leigh's strong net play. They took the set 6-2. In the second, the Shot Girls came back strong, breaking the Hot Shots in the first game and never looking back until the Hot Shots rallied at 5-5, to edge ahead and hold for a 7-5 second set win, and providing the team with a match win.

The Hot Shots finished the season 1-4. The losses don't reflects the team's ability to play. There were some extremely close lines throughout all five matches. Thanks to all our players for the fun and fellowship.

Hot Shots lose to second Kroc team
In a heated battle for last place, the Sugar Creek Hot Shots dropped 2 lines against the Kroc KV. Both teams were 0-3 going into the match. The Kroc emerged victorious.

On line 1, Fran and Lesa took center court (stadium court) at the Kroc against Missy and Beth. In the first, the Kroc dominated with a 6-0 win. In the second, Lesa and Fran switched sides and were able to get some games in a strong comeback effort. It wasn't enough, however, and the Kroc took the line 6-3.

On line 2, Dotty and Mara tussled against Elizabeth and Kerry. In the first set, the  Hot Shots struggled to get into a rhythm against two tough opponents. After losing 6-0, Dotty and Mara switched sides and rallied in the second set, taking the lead at one point, but unable to work out their unforced errors. They lost the second in a close 6-3 battle.

On line 3, Leigh and Catherine held off Kelly and Stephanie with a 7-5 win in a tight first set. In the second set, a little drama caused the Kroc to lose control and the Hot Shots cruised to a 6-2 victory for the line win.

The loss put the Hot Shots solidly at the bottom of the league, with a record of 0-4. The team's last match is Tues., Aug. 29 against Sportsclub.

Hot Shots lose another close match
The Hot Shots were unable to hold off the Kroc on Tues., Aug. 15 at the last home match of the season.

On line 1, Meredith and Leigh took it to a third set tie-breaker against Julie and Leslie. The first set went to the Kroc, 6-2, the second to the Hot Shots 6-3. In the tie-breaker, the Kroc ladies edged the Hot Shots for a 1-0 line win.

On line 2, Dotty and Laura went head-to-head against Jennifer and Kimberly. They were unable to overtake them, and lost in a close 6-3, 6-4 battle.

On line 3, Sally and Lisa fought a tough match against Michelle and Christina. They lost both sets, 7-5, 6-3.

The team's next match is Tues., Aug. 22 at the Kroc against the Crazy Combos.

Thanks to Dotty for handling the captain duties, and thankfully, the match didn't get rained out.

Hot Shots lose match against Brookstone
The Sugar Creek Hot Shots lost their first away match of the season against the undefeated Brookstone Fireballs on Tues., Aug. 8.

On line 1, Lesa and Leigh fought hard in the first set against Jessica and Elaine, but were unable to hold out, losing 6-4. In the second set, they were able to take it to a set tie-breaker, but Brookstone edged them out, 7-6.

On line 3, Judy and Mara really took on line 1 against Melodee and Lee Ann. The first set was close, with only one break of serve in the final 6-4 win by Brookstone. In the second set, Brookstone rallied with a 6-2 win.

Thanks to all the players who traveled the distance to play a late night match against one of the toughest teams in the league.

The Hot Shots are 0-2 for the season. The next team match is Tues., Aug. 15 at Sugar Creek against the Kroc KV.

Hot Shots drop first match of the season
The Sugar Creek Hot Shots faced the Greenville Country Club (GCC) Hits & Giggles on Aug. 1, in the team's first match of the season. Even though all three lines had multiple deuce games, the consensus of the Hot Shots was that GCC was able to run down shots that should have been winners. They put the ball--and the games--away for the three-line win.

On line 1, Lisa and Laura played Danette and Allie in a long and grueling match of long points accentuated by lobs, angles and down the line shots. They lost their match 6-1, 6-2.

On line 2, Catherine and Darina had many chances to break and hold server, but were skunked by Katie and Christa, 6-0, 6-0.

On line 3, Meredith and Fran did everything they could to hold off Codio and Tracy, but were unable to make any headway, and they lost 6-1, 6-1.

Thanks to Sally, Judy and Mara who came out to watch the Hot Shots.

It was a rough start to the season, but next week is a whole new ball game against Brookstone at their courts.
